    The Weider Ultimate Body Works

Recently, I decided to lose some weight. However, I was tired of the big, clunky machines and workout equipment that filled all the ads and commercials. They took up a lot of space without giving me the results I wanted in my experience. I was also increasingly concerned about all the health complications that kept coming up as a result of my weight. That's when I learned about Weider Ultimate Body Works.

Buying the Weider Ultimate Body Works

What to Think About Before Buying

Like much other resistance-based home gym equipment, Weider's bench is ideal for building muscle and toning. Keep in mind that the best weight loss results will come when pairing this kind of workout with heavy cardio work, like running, swimming, or rowing.

This means that the Weider Ultimate bench is good both for people who want to lose weight as well as those who are comfortable with their weight, but want to gain strength or improve their physique. This machine will give you light cardio mixed with a convenient array of bodyweight and resistance exercises to improve muscle groups all over the body. It makes a good replacement for a gym membership if all you do at the gym is weight work and machine workouts.

When thinking about bench equipment, consider your fitness goals as well as your practical constraints. That includes things like how much time you have to invest, how much space you have in your home, and your experience level with exercise.

If you have a history of working out on your own without classes or trainer sessions, you will have an easier time succeeding and staying consistent. If you don't have time to go to the gym or would just rather be at home when you exercise, then a bench gets you most of the benefits of the gym at a lower cost.

What is the Weider Ultimate Body Works

What is the Weider Ultimate Body Works? Who Is It For?

The Weider Ultimate Body Works is a Pilates-inspired bench workout machine. It does not come assembled. It is possible to fold up and transport the machine, although it can be difficult for one person. The goal of the bench unit is to replicate many different gym exercises using pulleys, cables, an inclined bench, and a leg rest without requiring alternative grips or configurations for each workout.

It is simpler than other bench machines like the typical Bowflex model, but more complex than a basic weight bench. If you want to build long-term strength, then after a point you will graduate beyond the level of resistance that this particular model can offer and will need to use a barbell and weight set instead. It is ideal for beginner and intermediate users, especially those who do not plan on powerlifting in the near future.

Features of the Weider Ultimate Body Works

Features of the Weider Ultimate Body Works

The Ultimate Body Works from Weider has several different key features that you should know about if you are thinking of buying one.

    Size and Dimensions

First, the physical characteristics and dimensions of the bench. It is 62 inches long, 8 inches tall, and 19 inches wide. It can fold up or collapse to store if you want to put it away.

The bench has a shipping weight of 72 pounds. It should be light enough to carry with one person, but assembly and positioning will be easier with two. The bench has wheels for easier positioning.

    Resistance and Adjustability

The assembly kit comes with 2 hand-sized pulley grips that attach at the top of the bench. The weight range of the pulleys is from bodyweight, with no bands at all, up to 50 pounds, which uses all 4 bands. The bands are fairly easy to remove and add. This is important because you will be using very different resistances for different exercise due to the fact that you are targeting different muscle groups.

You can use the pulleys in a variety of positions, including sitting on the bench, lying on the bench, standing, and all three of the above facing at different angles. Each position can deliver a new set of exercises. This is the core of what makes the Weider so versatile.

Here's a pretty comprehensive video review of a bunch of the exercises you can do on the Weider:

The machine comes with a user guide that identifies more than 100 different exercises. Depending on your goals, you can choose which ones to use and combine them into workouts. Overall, the exercises are building blocks that you can sort to form the best plan for your body.

Please note that it is good exercise practice to avoid working out the same muscle group too often. For example, if you have a workout focused on the arms and back, wait a few days before returning to those muscles and focus on legs and abs instead in the meantime. This reduces your risk of straining from overuse.

The bench also has an adjustable incline level. This can both increase the difficulty of an exercise and also change the angle so that you can work a different muscle. Combine this with the power bands to gain control over the level of each workout. The more you exercise, the higher you can set the resistance. It's a tangible marker of your progress.

    Construction

The basic structure of the frame and bench is steel. The pulleys use nylon. These materials are durable enough to withstand years of normal use. At the same time, they are light enough that the weight of the bench is manageable if you want to move it around your house. Note that these materials are not waterproof, so avoid keeping the machine outside or in a damp place.

Some other exercise benches are more fragile- the piping wears down, the pulleys break, the padding rips, and the wheels seize up. The Weider maintains its high level of performance without damage or loss of function. That means you do not need to go out of your way to be careful or gentle with the equipment. Of course, you should do some basic upkeep like wiping it down and keeping it clean, but this bench is built to be used.

You can see just how solid the construction of the Weider is in this video review here:

The simple design also means that you can store the machine away for a while without worrying that anything will be broken or jarred loose when you bring it back out. The more complicated a home exercise machine is, the more likely it is to break during use or movement.

    The Weider Brand

The manufacturer of the Weider bench is, as the name implies, the Weider production line of the company ICON Health and Fitness. This brand is trusted in the industry for a variety of different products, such as free weight racks and rod resistance machines. The name itself is derived from Joe Weider, who was once the personal trainer of Arnold Schwarzenegger. He also published a magazine called Muscle and Fitness.

The fact that the company has built other types of exercise equipment is an important sign. There are many manufacturers who have no experience or history of success and who manufacture only one product. When it doesn't sell well or customer complaints come in, the company goes dark.

An older, more established company has the experience of building and supporting equipment as well as accountability for the customer base. This improves the value you get and should increase your confidence that the bench will work as advertised and that Weider will uphold all relevant warranties.

Here's another video review and demo from someone who's being using the Weider a lot:

    Cost

The cost of the bench is is significantly lower than most of the competition, as you will see later in this Weider Ultimate Body Works review. The lower price makes the bench accessible to a wide audience and means that it can compete even with less-expensive gym memberships.

That is a major element in whether any piece of home gym equipment is worth buying. When a product like this gets expensive, you are better off just going to the gym and getting access to all the machines and gear in one place. The machine acts as a gym replacement at a cost that makes this a reasonable decision from a budget standpoint.

Additionally, with the money you save you can choose to invest in another piece of home workout gear. Since the one thing this model cannot provide is cardio, you might want to buy a treadmill, rowing machine, bike, or elliptical machine. This would give you everything you need for both endurance and strength.

Working out is much easier when you don't need to pay the ongoing cost of a membership or a big upfront cost in the form of expensive gear. When you combine this with how little space it takes up, the Weider makes it easy to get started.

    Unbiased Reviews

I took a look around the Internet and found a lot of people who loved the Weider and the Weider Ultimate Body Works exercises. Here's just a few of the many reviews out there.

Our delivery came two days early which was awesome. Everything came in perfect condition. I was able to do most of the assembly by myself but I had to have help with moving the main piece out of the box it came in and flipping it over to start the assembly. Overall the assembly was pretty easy since I had the right size of wrench to do it. The longest part was getting rid of all of the plastic covering on the main slab so that our cats didn’t get at it. Once I got it all together I had a great workout. I could feel each of my muscles working hard. The movements might seem easy at first, but as you do it for longer you can tell that you are getting a really good workout. What an awesome addition to our home gym Great value for an excellent price.

To be honest, I don’t use it as much as I would like to but whenever I do it definitely runs very quietly and is really smooth. I am a good 300 pounds right now and it has no problem handling that weight comfortably. I like that it comes with a poster which shows all the different exercises that you can do with the machine. The poster can stand up so it really doesn’t take up much space. What a great buy. I don’t regret it for a minute.

You know, you don’t usually get more than what you paid for something these days. The Total Gym costs 5 or 10 times as much as the Weider. But in my opinion, this machine is worth way more than I paid for it. It’s really sturdy for me. The workout options are more than I can count. I used to do some running before I hurt my knee, but this is perfect for me. I just need to put my shoes on and I’m really for a great workout. I’m definitely going to be using this machine for a while.

    Total Gym
1400 Deluxe Home Fitness Exercise Machine Equipment

    Info

The most important alternative to the Weider is the Total Gym. The Total Gym costs five times as much and offers less than five times as much workout value, so this is an excellent budget-friendly choice. The Total Gym is for people who can afford to spend a lot more money on home equipment to get the top of the line. Check it out if you want more options.

    Marcy
    Multi-Position PM-767 Weight Bench

    Info

This is an example of a bench that you use with barbells and dumbbells. It represents a different style of exercise- free weights instead of body weights and pulleys. This Marcy model is about the same price as the Weider or possibly cheaper depending on discounts. You will also need weights to use with the bench. This product is for people who prefer free weights to pulley workouts and who have a little more space to play with.

    Bowflex
    PR1000 Home Gym

    Info

The PR1000 from Bowflex uses pulleys like the Weider. It has a different design that places the pulleys up at shoulder level and adds leg and foot grips. The PR1000 represents a middle ground between the Weider and the top-end Total Gym- about twice as much money for a larger, more expansive workout selection. It also takes up more space and is harder to store.
